Summer Travel 2017: Amritsar – A Divine Experience

19th May 2017: It was a Friday the start of a really long yet life changing journey for me. Started off from home at around 10:30 am. Had booked an Uber for the airport. Well, it was like 20 mins away from my home. But the excitement of starting the journey just made the wait easier. The first stop of your going-to-be-long trip was Amritsar. Amritsar, a historically rich city in the northwest of India founded by the fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Ram Das. Amritsar is since ages been a house to India’s holiest shrine and some really serene sights. So we boarded the flight from the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at 1:10 PM. You may ask why I left at 10:30. Hey, I live in Mumbai the traffic can just make me miss my flight. It was a Vistara flight (UK-735). I’d really like to appreciate the service and food provided on the flight. You Go Vistara! Reaching Amritsar at around 3:40. As soon as I got down from my flight my first reaction was “Damn, It is HOT!”. It was like about ...

Kutch Diaries: Mandvi Beach & Bauter Jinalay (72 temples)

Mandvi, a city in Kutch in the Indian state of Gujarat is an old city enclosed within the fort walls of the summer retreat for Maharao (king) of the Kachchh.  A good half day trip from Bhuj unless you want to spend more time on the beach. You can opt to stay in Mandvi and explore Bhuj and its surroundings. The best time to visit Mandvi or the Great Rann of Kutch is October to March as it's quite pleasant out there during this period. Mandvi Beach Windfarm beach, as Mandvi Bech is known as, has windmills that are lined up at one end of the beach that generate electricity for the area around. Once upon a time, it was the largest wind farm in Asia. Normally any place which has a beach tends to be very humid but Mandvi Beach seemed to be an exception! Throughout our time though it was sunny but it was equally pleasant and breezy. If you missed the Day 1 check it out here . So as all know the first day was exhausting for me. But the second day went to be pretty exciting. So we woke up aaram se (at our own pace), had breakfast freshened up and were ready to check out more of Jaipur by 10am. We checked out of our hotel and boarded the bus to do some sightseeing.

My Summer Travel Day 1: The Pink City, Jaipur : It was exhausting!

Jaipur, a place of some the most amazing architecture, unmatched tasty food and the birthplace of Bollywood's most amazing and versatile actor, Irfan Khan. Honestly I have visited Rajasthan four times before, but Jaipur had never been on my list of places to see. Why? Well Jaipur has always been a place I want to visit, it was just that I never got called by this Pink City to come and explore its beauty.

Travel Diary: Sanjay Gandhi National Park

The Sanjay Gandhi National Park or Borivali Park whatever you wanna call it, is one of the most beautiful wildlife sanctuaries in the world. All because, it is spread across over 104 sq. km. and also because it  is the only park in the world located completely within a city limits, which is also rich in biodiversity.   To most Mumbaikars like me, the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) brings back the old memories of our childhood when our parents would take us to the park on a Sunday for a jungle safari or just an excursion to the famed Kanheri Caves (Note: they are around 2400 years old!) and not to forget those amazing school picnics. Alas, as I've grown up to be a teen, and through these years, places such as these have only remained confined to my memories. A visit to the National Park on a Tuesday, as part of my college's Environmental Visit, was to me as much about going back and living those memories again. It was about exploring the lesser known areas of the pa...

Rajasthan Diaries: Udaipur City Palace

Udaipur is considered the romantic city of Rajasthan, and I have to say it was love at first sight when I visited this city the second time. The historical palaces, luxurious hotels, scenic sights along the lakes and much more exciting stuffs. This was my second visit to Udaipur, the last time I visited it I was too small to remember a-thing. But my second visit was indelible. With an aim to make it a visual delight for my family and of course me, I insisted on visiting the Udaipur City Palace.
