A modern approach to planning vacations

A great tool for planning is an electronic spreadsheet. You can use any products as they are similar, like the Microsoft Excel, Libre Office, or Google Docs. The last one also has the benefit of sharing your spreadsheets online (which is great if travel in a group). Let’s see how the spreadsheet solution may help you when planning a vacation.

1. Columns and rows

Create columns which should correspond to the date, the number of the day, destination, cost, etc. Consider only the necessary points. Don’t create excessive columns. You can make columns on separate pages for different countries or different cities, as an example. Imagine you want to visit both New York and Boston, which will be two separate pages. As an example, you are going to visit a Barber Shop Midtown West on the second day, which will be one of the three activities throughout the day, with a certain price and timing. Fill out the last two activities, and the day two is done.

2. Some maths

Using the formulas in the spreadsheet is easy even for a beginner. You will also have the benefit of calculating the costs of alternative activities using the if statements. It is okay to create more than one total price columns in the case of alternatives. Don’t forget to create a cell for the total price of the whole trip. A great choice is to leave a cell for unforeseen expenses. This one, of course, demands budget planning.

3. Additional benefits

You can add descriptions links right to your spreadsheet. The possibility of sharing lets people you go with add their links and remarks. It is also easy to format the numbers into currency. The formulas may help you calculate your currency into foreign one right away. Sharing will also help you define the specific dates. By the way, put the specific dates in the end, even if you go alone.

Don’t limit yourself. Plan whatever you want using a spreadsheet. Traveling is just a single case among the myriads of possible ones.

Travel Diary: Sanjay Gandhi National Park

The Sanjay Gandhi National Park or Borivali Park whatever you wanna call it, is one of the most beautiful wildlife sanctuaries in the world. All because, it is spread across over 104 sq. km. and also because it  is the only park in the world located completely within a city limits, which is also rich in biodiversity.   To most Mumbaikars like me, the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) brings back the old memories of our childhood when our parents would take us to the park on a Sunday for a jungle safari or just an excursion to the famed Kanheri Caves (Note: they are around 2400 years old!) and not to forget those amazing school picnics. Alas, as I've grown up to be a teen, and through these years, places such as these have only remained confined to my memories. A visit to the National Park on a Tuesday, as part of my college's Environmental Visit, was to me as much about going back and living those memories again. It was about exploring the lesser known areas of the par

Mumbai? How does it feel through the eyes of a Mumbaikar?

Photograph: Maciej It's said Bombay is not a city it's a feeling…. But our good friends at Shiv Sena just wanted it changed to Mumbai… Well, that's just another story, 'Mumbai' hasn’t changed… People are the same, food is the same… and Mumbai is still a feeling that's loved to be felt… So, you're here to see Mumbai through my eyes, right? If you’re a Mumbaikar ( As we call ourselves! ) you may pretty much relate with every small stuff I need to tell about the city. And if you’ve never been to Mumbai… I’m pretty sure you'll be able to experience the thrills it has to offer just by following along. Mumbai to a majority of you is the capital of the State of Maharashtra or just the financial capital of India, Mumbai boasts of a population of over 20 million with people from different parts of the world calling it their home, just like me… Well, you may see me mention "me" a lot… cause I'm honestly a self-obsessed person. Let’s se
