Am I a Responsible Tourist? #ResponsibleTourism

Traveling is the most stress relieving thing to do for me! Whenever I'm stressed with all the college work and other assignments I take up I just leave everything and go out of the house to some place!

As  Carl Sagan says,
“I don’t know where I am going but I’m on my way.”
Which Place, I may not be sure about that but I just go somewhere different each time!

“Once a year go somewhere you have never been before.”– Dalai Lama
But the main question is what does the title mean? Am I a responsible Blogger? Are you One?

I am blogging for #ResponsibleTourism activity by Outlook Traveller in association with BlogAdda

So first lets see, What actually is Responsible Tourism?

Responsible Tourism is about “making better places for people to live in and better places for people to visit.” Responsible Tourism requires that operators, hoteliers, governments, local people and tourists take responsibility, take action to make tourism more sustainable.

Why do I promote Responsible Tourism?

  • Because today tourism is one of the main economic activities and its impact on the hosting territories cannot be ignored
  • Because there are more than one billion tourists travelling every year in the world
  • Because tourism provides 200 million direct jobs which represent 8% of global employment
  • Because tourism is expected to grow aggressively in the coming years, supported by the development of transport and communication
  • Because tourism implemented without the compliance of the principles of sustainability, solidarity and social responsibility (especially with concerns to mass tourism) has often had very negative effects on the environment, the cultures, the societies and the local economies in hosting countries
  • It is therefore necessary for tourism development to establish specific limits and conditions for its development.
Responsible tourism proposes concrete solutions and alternatives to this situation keeping in mind the interests of the tourist, the local population and the tourism operators.

How do I promote Responsible Blogging?

Before the trip, getting informed is key to a responsible experience! One should find out about the destination so as to choose it carefully, being aware therefore of the local political, economical and historical situation. I think one should be actors of the travel conception and should learn about the area as much as possible before travelling. In that way once s/he has arrived, it will be easier to create relationships. Experiencing cultural exchanges with the local population will also be facilitated, as much as having a moment’s relaxation and some fun.

During the trip, s/he should acknowledge and respect the manners, customs, rights and beliefs of all the peoples who are hosting them, recognizing their centrality in our experience.

After the journey, s/he should go deeper into the topics discovered during the responsible touristic experience. S/he should inform the others about the journry so that “our responsible travel” experience does not remain “private” but influences our social networks, spreading the idea that “Travelling Responsibly” is better!

Where Do I start?

In your city,in your state, start with your country, then proceed to the World … wherever there is a human, a cultural, a social and natural aspect to learn, enhance and preserve! No place is better than another to establish responsible tourism. Because "IN" responsible tourism there are values, ideas and practices of respect, sharing and preservation. There are no geographical barriers or limitations to responsible tourism practices as they can be used in any place or nation...

Responsible Tourism can be practiced either alone or together with specialist organisations who are used to applying and using its values and practices, which actually undertake to disseminate and implement.

Garry Wilson, Mainstream Product & Purchasing Director, for the TUI Group argues in an interview specially recorded, for Cape Town and Africa, that Responsible Tourism is now core, mainstream business for TUI.

With the opportunity to travel, its always comes a new responsibility for all travelers. So let’s be a responsible traveler and encourage responsible tourism in the world.

Travel Diary: Sanjay Gandhi National Park

The Sanjay Gandhi National Park or Borivali Park whatever you wanna call it, is one of the most beautiful wildlife sanctuaries in the world. All because, it is spread across over 104 sq. km. and also because it  is the only park in the world located completely within a city limits, which is also rich in biodiversity.   To most Mumbaikars like me, the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) brings back the old memories of our childhood when our parents would take us to the park on a Sunday for a jungle safari or just an excursion to the famed Kanheri Caves (Note: they are around 2400 years old!) and not to forget those amazing school picnics. Alas, as I've grown up to be a teen, and through these years, places such as these have only remained confined to my memories. A visit to the National Park on a Tuesday, as part of my college's Environmental Visit, was to me as much about going back and living those memories again. It was about exploring the lesser known areas of the pa...

What about traveling by yourself?

Traveling alone is a doubtful topic. Most of us have thought at least once about a trip by yourself. These fleeting thoughts are easily replaced with other ones in the dialogue with yourself because our mind faces some real and illusory obstacles. Let’s define these obstacles to see what prevents us from traveling alone. Maybe you will reconsider them and finally decide to travel with no companion. 1. Unhappy crew Socializing is vital for every human being. We want to share our most memorable experiences with our friends and family. The experiences may be both fun and stressful; furthermore, people behave differently in their comfort zone and in a new ambience. Consider the simple facts like chronic illnesses, daily routines, and tastes. As an example, my ex would look for organic color systems salons for her hair maintenance. The question is whether you go on with the distractors or not. You won’t find a hair salon in the mountains. Some medicines may be restricted in certain...
