Find a ride and lift yourself anywhere

Hitchhiking is a great way to shorten your expenses and add some fun to your traveling experience. However, traveling with strangers is unpredictable. To make it safe and pleasant, you should consider some simple facts. Whether you are heading to a New York barbershop few corners away or hundreds of miles from your starting area, the points stay the same.

1. Make a decent preparation

You can’t predict how long will it take you to get your lift so that you need to pack wisely. You need to be packed as light as you can to hitchhike efficiently, but your package should let you last for a few days. Focus on the space in your backpack and put enough water, snacks, and changeable clothes. Consider the weather and climate in case you need an umbrella and an insect repellent. Have some spare money and your traveler’s insurance to stay confident in case of any accident. It is never excessive to have a pepper spray.

2. Juridical circumstances

Be aware of the local hitchhiking laws. They mostly vary in each region and represent a set of restriction you always need to know. As an example, you must stay off the highways in the United States. Besides this fact, hitchhiking is legal in every state.

3. Find the best spot

A good spot represents a place where the traffic is steady, and there is enough space to pick you up. These spots are generally freeways on turnpikes. It is always a great decision to stay near stoplights or stop signs. The drivers will automatically have more time to think about picking you up. Make sure the side of the city corresponds to your direction. Ensure the spot is well-lit so that the drivers will have an opportunity to notice and observe you.

4. Make a sign

Show the drivers you take your trip seriously and write an adorable sign using a permanent marker. The message should be brief and contain the destination or the distance. You can add silly phrases like “Doesn’t bite” but the message should only catch the driver’s interest, it shouldn’t be disturbing.

Use these simple tips to become a confident hitchhiker.

Well, it was like 20 mins away from my home. But the excitement of starting the journey just made the wait easier. The first stop of your going-to-be-long trip was Amritsar. Amritsar, a historically rich city in the northwest of India founded by the fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Ram Das. Amritsar is since ages been a house to India’s holiest shrine and some really serene sights. So we boarded the flight from the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at 1:10 PM. You may ask why I left at 10:30. Hey, I live in Mumbai the traffic can just make me miss my flight. It was a Vistara flight (UK-735). I’d really like to appreciate the service and food provided on the flight. You Go Vistara! Reaching Amritsar at around 3:40. As soon as I got down from my flight my first reaction was “Damn, It is HOT!”. It was like about ...
